Lies has had a special affinity for horses since childhood and knew very early on that she would become a horse veterinarian. She graduated in 2005 from the Veterinary Faculty of Ghent University in Belgium. She improved her skills in breeding and medical aspects of reproduction with Dr. Joris De Brabander.. In 2006 went to Normandy to further specialize in gynecology and worked as a 'Veterinary Coordinator' for the FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) in Lausanne, where she got to know all aspects of the international equestrian world up close.
In 2011 she founded her own gynecological center in Oudsbergen, specializing in fertility and reproduction. Artificial inseminations and embryo transfers are performed routinely in her practice. The center has also a large group of surrogate mares, so that a suitable surrogate mare can always be offered for the embryos created naturally or by ICSI.
Lies also has a special focus on fertility problems in mares and the center offers a foaling service where mares are hospitalized to be foaled in a veterinary environment. Dozens of foals are born every year under the supervision of a veterinarian reducing drastically the risk complications. Ovum pick-up is the latest developed service at the reproduction center, and it is offered in collaboration with Kaatje Duchène, Dipl ECAR (European College of Animal Reproduction), a European recognized specialist experienced in ovum pick-up.
